New Jersey, USA - Airport 20/20, a leader in Airport Information Systems, today announced that they have signed a contract with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to supply a fully integrated Terminal Operations Management System (TOMS) to Newark Liberty International Airport (Newark). This latest contract follows the successful delivery of a comprehensive range of 20/20 solutions to Terminal 1 at JFK International Airport earlier this year.
The 10 month project will see Airport 20/20 deploying a fully integrated solution to Newark to manage key aspects of its terminal including baggage carousels, gates, stands and ticket counters. The Gate Management System (part of the full 20/20 Resource Management System) will be implemented and commissioned in 60 days. This is a very tight timeline but given the state-of-the-art features and capabilities of the 20/20 RMS, Airport 20/20 say it is achievable.
“We are excited to work with another airport in the region – especially following our recent success at Terminal 1 at JFK” says Nigel Farley, General Manager of Airport 20/20. “It was a very competitive tender process and I am pleased that the innovative capabilities of the Airport 20/20 solution were seen to deliver the best features and value for Newark. The integrated 20/20 solution will be delivered in stages starting with the deployment of Resource Management System for managing Newark’s gates and stands. The second phase includes the installation of the 20/20 Baggage Information Display system (BIDS).”
The 20/20 System utilizes the latest communication technologies and Newark will be utilizing the innovative 20/20 Mobile Operations Solution. Using an Apple iTouch or iPhone, Newark operations staff can update the 20/20 system via secure wireless network and update gate, stand and flight details - all without the need for a computer terminal. “Newark wanted to provide their operations staff with real flexibility regarding the ability to update the 20/20 RMS and the 20/20 Mobile Operations solution is perfect for this,” continued Farley. “Staff on the ground at Newark can now update the system and manage the airport’s resources from anywhere at the airport – making more efficient use of their time and airport resources.”
“We welcome Newark to the family of Airport 20/20 customers around the world – in particular the growing number of international airports in the U.S. and Canada that have invested in our solutions to support the growth of their businesses.”
Newark provides services to over 35 million passengers each year through its three terminals and the Port Authority has invested in excess of $3.9 billion to maintain the airport as the second largest hub for New York’s incumbent carrier Continental Airlines.
